October 06, 2003 :: The PGSM Soundtrack & Official PGSM Site Updates

[Special Note: Japanese text encoding required to view portions of this article]

The Pretty Guardian Sailormoon CD will be released on November 19, 2003 in Japan. The CD, entitled きらり☆セーラードリーム ("Kirari*Sailor Dream"), will include two songs from the new live-action series:

1) キラリ☆セーラードリーム! ("Kirari*Sailor Dream")
2) C'est La Vie - 私のなかの恋する部分 ("C'est La Vie - Watashi no naka no koi suru bu bun")

The first song, "Kirari*Sailor Dream," is the opening title song of the series, and "C'est La Vie" was played throughout the first episode. (An interesting note, "C'est La Vie" sounds like "Sailor V," and Minako plays a music idol in the PGSM series).
The CD can be purchased at Amazon.co.jp here (ASIN: B0000DJW7C) for 1,200 yen, which is approx. $10.66 US. However, if you want to ship it to the US, plan on paying at least 900 yen or $8.00 US for shipping and export taxes.

Toei now has an official Pretty Guardian Sailormoon website at Fly Me to the Sailormoon. Toei's site includes snapshots from the production of the series. In addition, the other official websites, CBC and Sailormoon Channel have also updated their sites. The Sailormoon Channel has added pictures and a summary for "Act 1" (the first episode of PGSM, second link on their menu) and a "Story List" that lists the episodes (4th link on their menu). CBC has updated their page with a preview of episode 2 (2nd link on their menu) and added new diary entries for the month of October (4th link on their menu).

October 03, 2003 :: The New Manga & PGSM

[Note: Genvid.com will soon be posting the images I scanned of the two volumes. Since I can't upload that amount onto my site, I suggest you pay them a visit. ^_^]

The first two volumes of the revised Manga were released in Japan on September 22, 2003. The Manga, re-titled Pretty Guardian Sailormoon to coincide with the premier of the new live-action series of the same title, has serveral new features.

Volume 1: First off, the covers have been re-drawn. Volume 1 features a drawing of Sailormoon with a "1" in the upper left hand corner, "Naoko Takeuchi" written down the upper right side, and the title in raised letters. The back cover has a picture of Sailormoon next to a crescent moon. The inside flap has "Pretty Guardian Sailormoon" written down the side, along with a picture of Sailormoon with solid circle-eyes. The other flap has a small biography of Takeuchi Naoko. Over the top of the first editions is a small removable wrap-around pink ad for the new live action series (it features Sawai Miyuu dressed as Sailormoon and an ad for Sailormoon cups).
Inside the Manga is a sheet of stickers. There is a sticker for each of the 10 senshi, one for Luna, a Pretty Guardian Sailormoon Name-Logo, a PGSM Logo with Sailormoon, and another sticker of Sailormoon (the same picture as is on the back cover).
Also new in the revised first volume are seperate pages with the following pictures: a colored title page with Sailormoon sitting on a crescent moon, a color picture of Princess Serenity, the first page of the Manga with Ikuko-mama reading the Sailor V article is colored, a two-page color title page for Act 1 with Sailormoon with white hair, and a colored contents with a picture of a Sailormoon.
Volume 1 contains 6 Acts (the original had 5). The title pages of the each act has new font and the "Pretty Guardian Sailormoon" title logo on it. Also, there are no notes from Naoko. In the space were the notes would go are small pictures of the senshi. Other changes include: in Act 2, Mercury has a CD-ROM rather than a floppy disk, and some of the images (such as Mercury's symbol) have been re-drawn.

Volume 2: The cover of Vol. 2 features Sailormercury surrounded by bubbles. There is a "2" in the upper right corner, below which is the author's name, "Naoko Takeuchi". The title text ("Pretty Guardian Sailormoon") is raised. The back cover has a picture of Sailormercury next to a blue crescent moon. The inside flap has a small biography of Naoko and the other flap has the words "Pretty Guardian Sailormoon" in blue down the side along with an image of Mercury. The wrap around ad is the same as the first, except it's blue and has a small picture of vol. 2 on it.
The first page is a sticker page with the following stickers: the title graphic for PGSM, 1 head shot of the human form of each of the 10 Senshi, 3 different face shot of Artemis, 3 of Luna, 6 bunny stickers of varying sizes, and a mirror reflection of Usagi/Sailormoon. The next page is a colored title page with the same picture of Sailormercury as on the cover (without the bubbles). Then there's a color picture of the Usagi, Makoto, Rei, Minako, & Ami sitting on the grass, a title page for Act 7 with the 5 girls with their hair colored (Usagi has pink hair, Ami blue, etc) and a blue contents page with a picture of a small Sailormercury.
This volume has Acts 7-11 (the original had acts 6-9). Changes include: Naoko's notes are replaced by small images of the Senshi, the title pages have the font changed and the PGSM title logo added, images have been re-drawn (such as the teleportation scene, image of Usagi with a bunny head, and the images of the moon kingdom in Act 10). Also in act 10, instead of pulling the sword from the ground, the senshi pull it from a pedastal and Queen Serenity stands on the pedastal rather than on the ground. The lines around the dialog are smoother. The images of Metallia are softer. Also, in the back of Vol. 2 are additon black & white images. There is the original sketch of the Senshi and a sketch of Usagi/Sailormoon, both of which appear in the Materials Collection Artbook. There are also more original images of Usagi. Also, there is a short two-page comic stip at the end.

PGSM Update :: New Actors & Actresses:
The voice of Luna will be Han Keiko (Birthdate: 4/05/1953) who also did the Anime voice of Luna. Furuhata Motoki will be played by Kikawada Masaya (Birthdate: 6/01/1980) who appeared in the The 326 Internet Movie Jun ("Decade") with Sawai Miyuu (who is playing Sailormoon). September 22, 2003::News Update

        Another PGSM update:
In the live-action series, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon,Tsukino Ikuko (Usagi's mother) will be played by Moriwaka Kaori. (Birthdate: Dec. 11, 1963) Moriwaka-san was a member of the 1980's band "Go Bangs" and currently does solo music work. In addition, Moriwaka is also an actress in theatre and on TV. She recently appeared in Cinderella Story.

The re-vamped Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Manga Vol. 1 (ISBN: 4063347761) and Vol. 2 (ISBN: 406334777X) were released today. (More information will be avaiable in the future, after I receive the 2 Manga volumes I ordered from Japan).

There have been two additional Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon promo clips released. The first of the two new ones is a re-mix of a previous promo with some new clips. The second new promo features clips of Usagi watching a Sailor V news story, a cameo by Shingo (Usagi's brother), and a purple stuffed-animal Luna. You can see the new clips at this website: Sailor Moon Live. There are also new images of the characters in the live action series, including an image of the Senshi in their school uniforms (with Usagi holding the stuffed Luna), and image of Tuxedo Kamen, and an image of Sailor V. You can view the images at the following sites (or E-Mail me and I will send you a copy): Sailor Moon Live and Genvid.com.

In related news, the official PGSM site has updated with new sections. The sections, in order, are : "Story," "Next," "Cast" "Diary," "Message Board" and "Information". The Cast page now sports "mouse-over" images that switch between the actresses and the senshi. The Diary page has a calendar and on every day a different actress writes a note (Moon on Monday, Mars on Tuesday, Mercury on Wednesday, Jupiter on Thursday, and Venus on Friday.) The Message Board serves two purposes: the first one is obviously as a Message Board, and the second is to send in Contest Entry forms. The Contest can be found on the "Information" page. The current question is "In Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon episode one, Sailor Moon used what skill to defeat the enemy?" The prizes are: 1)a "moonlight wand" and a poster or 2)a Luna doll and a poster. However, it is unlikely that the company will accept contest submitions from people outside of Japan.

        Another PGSM update:

There are two Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Commercials that have been released. The first one has Luna narrating while pictures of Sailor Moon falsh across the screen. The second commercial shows the five Sailor Senshi dressed up in their Sailor costumes posing as a group. Then the commercial shows them individualy in their everday forms (note that they have black hair in their human forms). Both commercials end with the date and time of the premier episode (Saturday October 4, 2003 at 7:30 AM on Japanese station TBS).         Another PGSM update:
The Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Manga is going to be re-released to go along with the new live action series. The Manga will be re-released in 12 "deluxe" editions with new cover art (by Takeuchi Naoko). The manga drawings will be retouched, there will be new colored pages, and the volumes will have a new format (obviously, if the series will be re-leased in only 12 editions, since the original was 18 volumes). Also, the first edition copies will have stickers. Books 1 (with Sailor Moon on the cover) and 2 (with Sailor Mercury on the cover) will be released on September 22, 2003. Following the first 2 books, each addition book will be released one a month starting in October. See the Official Announcement. You can purchase the new Manga volumes when they are released from Amazon Japan: Vol. 1 (ISBN: 4063347761), Vol. 2 (ISBN: 406334777X). They are being sold for 429 yen each (about $4 US) [Translation from Sailor Moon Uncensored Forums, Himawari's post, Sept. 2, 2003; Amazon Japan Link from alt.fan.sailor-moon newsgroup post by Julian, Sept 7, 2003;]

In the close up pictures of the individual Senshi on the Official Site, you can see that the Four Guardian Senshi (Mars, Mercury, Venus, & Jupiter) are all wearing wrist-watches on their left arms. According to Bandai's Gachapon Magazine, the wrist-watches are the Four Guardian Senshi's transformation items. Also, the magazine reveals that the Senshi will be communicating through Cell Phones. (Magazine notes that these items may change in the future, when the series is released). [Information from Sailor Moon Uncensored Forums, Himawari's post, Aug. 26, 2003]

It also appears that the Senshi (at least Usagi) will have regular black hair in the human forms (they will then changed to the colored wigs for their Senshi form). You can see a picture of the live action Usagi with black hair here: Artical. Other images, such as one from the Tokyo Shinbun paper also show the black-haired Usagi. [For more information/artical translations and pictures, check out Sailor Moon Uncensored Forums, Himawari's post, Aug. 20, 2003; and Genvid.com Sept. 5 Artical.]

New Sailor Moon In Japan & News Briefs

August 07, 2003
PGSM News Conference, July 31, 2003, in Yokohama, Japan
A new live action Sailormoon show, titled "Pretty Guardian Sailormoon," will be airing this Fall in Japan. The new series will air on TBS/CBC Channel 26 on October 4, 2003 (Saturday) and will run from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM. Information about the show was announced at a news conference in Yokohama, Japan on July 31, 2003.

The actresses portraying the Sailor Senshi (See right) are wearing outfits that follow those of the manga (ie. the belts around Venus' and Jupiter's waists). However, it has not been announced whether or not the new live action series will follow the manga or the anime, or have a new story line. All five of the main actresses are fairly young, ranging in age from 14 to 17. No information has been released tey about the supporting cast or villains.

You can visit Bandai Networks' Official Pretty Guardian Sailormoon page or CBC's Pretty Guardian Sailormoon page. CBC's page lists the five starring actresses in the following order: SailorMoon (played by Sawai Miyuu, Birthday 10/23/1987), SailorMercury (played by Hama Chisaki, Birthday 11/10/1988), SailorMars (played by Kitigawa Keiko, Birthday 8/22/1986), SailorJupiter (played by Azama Myuu, Birthday 12/26/86), and SailorVenus (played by Komatsu Ayaka, Birdthday 7/23/1986).

If you would like to see CBC's page translated roughly into English, you can click this link that will translate it through Altavista's "BlabbleFish": CBC in English. (Please note, BlabbleFish does not translate pictures. I listed the characters/actresses (above) in the order in which they are displayed on the page, so that you can tell who is who.)

News Briefs

Season 1 Box Set Uncut     ADV Films has released Sailormoon Season 1, uncut on DVD (Japanese audio, English subtitles). It was released July 15, 2003 and is an 8 DVD Box set. While the ADV site is selling it for $149.98, Amazon has it for $112.49 (& Amazon Auction from $50.97) and Barnes & Noble sells it for $99.73 if you have a Reader's Advantage Card. However, there is a quality issue with this disc set. I have already heard several complaints about the Season 1 DVD set. People have complained about the audio and video quality and DVD skipping. I would suggest waiting a while before spending such a large sum of money on the set, to see if ADV fixes the problem.

ADV Films will be releasing Sailor Moon, Season 2 Uncut on September 16, 2003. It will also be an 8 disc DVD box set with Japanese audio and english subtitles. Barnes & Noble lists it for $128.23 (With Reader's Advantage) and Amazon has it for $112.49 on Pre-order. Due to quality problems with the first season Box Set, I would suggest waiting a while and checking customer reviews.
